Communities should receive adequate financial benefits for shale gas exploration, but fracking should still not take place if it damages the countryside or prevents the country from meeting climate change targets.
An unbelievable 19 million carrier bags are given out daily in England but as shoppers hit the stores for post-Christmas bargains, that figure could be even higher in the first few days of the New Year, says the Break the Bag Habit campaign.
CAP announcement means that some areas of the countryside will not benefit from green farming scheme measures. This could result in less maintenance and enhancement of landscape features, such as hedgerows and dry stone walls, which contribute to the character of the countryside.
We welcome plans to lower subsidies for onshore wind and solar farms, and also the increase to offshore wind subsidies. However we reiterate that all renewable energy developments must be designed to minimise impact on our landscapes.
The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) is urging the Government to allocate £3.8bn of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) funding to rural development measures, and in particular ‘green farming’ schemes, over the next seven years.
CPRE warned today (26 November 2013) that the consultation timescale for the HS2 hybrid bill is likely to breach international law.
The Government is failing to deliver more than a third of its natural environment commitments, despite huge public support for action for nature, wildlife and the countryside.
